Diversity & Inclusion Training at Manulife
The Unconcious Bias Training training started in 2017 with senior executives completing the ‘Inclusion Drives Innovation: Beyond Unconscious Bias’ training program. “This highly dynamic and interactive program reinforced the why and how of diversity and inclusion by giving our leaders an opportunity to discuss how creating a diverse and inclusive environment can drive business success, how bias can hinder inclusion and what they can do to mitigate it,” says Sandeep Tatla, Assistant Vice President, Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion.
- 92% agreed that the training helped them learn how to manage their biases and be more inclusive at work
- 88% agreed that the training helped them to identify their own biases
- 87% would recommend the training to their colleagues
“You can hire as many women as you want, and as many people of colour, but if your culture isn’t going to sustain them, you’ve got a big challenge,” explains Sandeep. “There needs to be a focus on inclusion. Unconscious bias training is one way that we’re working to shift our culture.”
Manulife is serious about governance
Manulife is built on the foundations of accountability, fairness and transparency – they govern the way we do business at every level, across every division, every day. Excellent corporate governance is critical to long-term success — for us, our shareholders and our customers. Our Board of Directors sets the tone by promoting a strong culture of integrity and ethical behaviour throughout our organization.
We also measure our impact. The strength of a company’s commitment to gender equality, the percentage of women in senior management and the strength of gender diversity programs and anti-discrimination policies.
