Oliver Wyman Consulting

About the Diversity & Inclusion Company:
Inclusion and diversity is how we run the firm. From the CEO and leadership team’s engaged participation in our Inclusion Council, strong values shape our daily interactions, business strategies, and culture. We believe inclusion drives diversity, and diversity enables better business outcomes, for you and for our people. Oliver Wyman is convinced this is the right thing to do. And that it makes us collectively better, individually richer.
How this Equity, Diversity, Inclusion focused company manages EDI?:

Oliver Wyman Diversity

Oliver Wyman is a global management consulting firm. Founded in 1984, the firm adopted its current form in May 2007, when Mercer Oliver Wyman joined with Mercer Management Consulting and Mercer Delta to become one firm named Oliver Wyman. It is part of the Oliver Wyman Group, a business unit of Marsh & McLennan.

A culture where different people thrive. Together.

Our people feel confident that they can succeed at Oliver Wyman by being themselves, and are also clear that their diverse contribution is expected to produce the innovative solutions we offer to our clients. That is why our approach to I&D focuses on culture.  We believe every dimension of diversity – including background, experiences, and thought – should be nourished and valued.  We share this responsibility and work together to create the culture we want to live in.

Inclusion & Diversity is our philosophy, not a program

It’s not a talent program; it’s a way of life. Our commitment is rooted in our values, woven into our business strategies, and lived daily in the spirit of our culture. We believe inclusion drives diversity, and diversity enables better outcomes for us and our clients. We also believe in creating a culture where all of our colleagues can bring their full, authentic selves to work and feel included and positioned for success.

A culture where different people thrive. Together. We want our people to feel confident that they can succeed here being themselves. That’s why our approach to I&D centers around culture. We believe all diversity – including diversity of background, experience, and thought – should be nourished and valued.

We focus on I&D first and foremost because it’s the right thing to do. But we also know that diverse teams outperform homogeneous ones, and by fostering a culture where different people thrive together we can deliver greater impact for our clients. We share this responsibility and work together to create the culture we strive for.

EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) Initiatives

Women at Oliver Wyman (WOW) is a worldwide network aimed at attracting top female talent to our company and unlocking their full potential at every level. Members (including men) create opportunities to share experiences, forge relationships and influence the firm.

Enabling a curious culture that leans into difference

When you lead with curiosity, you can discover amazing things – about yourself and others. Employees of Oliver Wyman Enabling Racial and Ethnic Diversity (EMPOWERED) is an employee resource group that works to improve the experiences of all Oliver Wyman colleagues by evolving how we perceive and engage with difference – especially as it relates to the many intersections of race, ethnicity, and culture.

Cultivating a culture that sees opportunity in difference

Through the work of our members, we are fostering a culture of relentless curiosity, intentional awareness and willful inclusion that allows us to connect better with our colleagues and clients. To that end, EMPOWERED works to:

  • Attract, retain, and develop a diverse and inclusive talent pipeline that can reach its fullest potential
  • Foster a reflexively inclusive culture where all colleagues – regardless of race, ethnicity, or culture – feel confident they can succeed
  • Enable more curiosity, comfort, and connection across difference – especially around race, ethnicity and culture
  • Develop intentionally inclusive leaders that feel confident learning about and leaning into difference to get the most out of all their people

Oliver Wyman aspires to be a workplace that is as inclusive as possible, allowing our colleagues to be their full selves each and every day. Because of this, we want to recognize how important Pride Month is for our colleagues, clients, friends, and family, in particular as this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.

As this event is considered by many to be the beginning of the modern LGBT+ movement, this month Oliver Wyman looks to honor the journey that GLOW, our colleagues, and others have taken to improve the lives of LGBT+ people. Follow #prOWd to learn about our many GLOW members, various events, volunteer projects, and more.

Veterans of Oliver Wyman

VOW is an internal colleague network aimed at:

  • Advising transitioning veterans
  • Providing a supportive internal community
  • Promoting veteran advocacy in local communities
  • VOW’s members are high performers from many of the service branches.

Our three areas of focus:

  • Recruiting: Connect the highest caliber veteran candidates with Oliver Wyman so they can advance from Day One
  • Retention: Develop a supportive community for veterans
  • Connection: Partner with veteran charities and serve as the conduit for connecting Oliver Wyman to the veteran community

Helping introverts and extroverts better understand one another

The introversion-extroversion spectrum of diversity is one that we are all familiar with.  Many of us think about it, but many of us don’t fully feel comfortable exploring it with others.  This is sub-optimal both from Oliver Wyman’s perspective in creating high-performing teams, and from individuals’ perspectives in that they may not feel fully comfortable bringing their true, authentic selves to work.  IntrOW seeks to help everyone at Oliver Wyman better understand this dimension of diversity and to make talking about it a normal part of the day-to-day life at the firm through office discussions, video series, mentorship programs, etc.
Enabling more effective collaborationIntrOW is seeking to remove a key barrier to high-performing teams – conflict or misunderstanding due to a difference in preference and needs pertaining to introversion and extroversion.  We have introduced introvert-friendly work practices and are seeking ways to embed such practices into day-to-day life.
