What is Orange Shirt Day? September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation for the first time in Canada. It is an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the legacy of residential schools in Canada where more than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit children were forced to attend between the 1870s and 1997. A local campaign called Orange Shirt Cookie Day has been launched this weekend to raise awareness around truth and reconciliation with Indigenous people.
