Tyre Nichols case: Does diversity in policing address police brutality?
29-year-old Black man, Tyre Nichols, died following a violent encounter with Memphis police officers. Spotlight is once again put on diversity in policing. Offering more diverse policing resources has been a longstanding proposal in the struggle against racism in police. Racism in policy isn’t just happening on an individual level but on a systemic level. Experts say racism within criminal justice policies and attitudes have a negative effect on communities of colour. Race played a role in this case even Black officers were involved. Cardiff barista training project aims to boost confidence
Coffee drinkers, anyone? Many start their days with coffee. One mum is using coffee to build confidence in youth. Ms. Natalie Hodgkinson, a former maths teacher, is starting a barista training project to help young people from minority backgrounds in her community. This program promotes diversity and representation within the industry and helps 16 to 24-year-olds the social skills they need to work. Read this inspiring BBC news story.

Trudeau announces Amira Elghawaby as Canada’s first representative to combat Islamophobia
Islamophobia is a prejudice, fear, and hatred of Muslims that leads to hostility toward Muslims through threatening, harassment, abuse, incitement, and intimidation online and offline. Human rights activist, Amira Elghawaby, has been appointed by Trudeau to combat Islamophobia by advising the federal government on how to better fight discrimination against the Muslim community. A proposed budget of $85 million over four years will contribute to a new anti-racism strategy and national action plan to combat hate. Read the CBC news article.
